Happy Haiku: Patience

with 4 comments

Nhan-Fiction Note: Hi there.

As part of my attempt at making this blog function with more consistency, I will be designating certain days of the week with “scheduled” topics and specific themes. For instance, Sunday just happened to be the day I was writing Random Kanji Knowledge posts, so I will make the kanji topics Sunday’s main spiel from here on out.

Of course, I do not intend to make every designated post about Japanese-related themes all the time, and I still want to publish random posts whenever things come to mind. I already have an everyday rule of posting at least one thing each day.

So far, it is looking like:

Sunday: Random Kanji Knowledge.
Monday: Champion rant/critique for “League of Legends.”
Tuesday: Happy Haiku (as the title of this blog post points out).
Wednesday to Saturday: TBD. I will just select things as I see fit.

Nothing is really set in stone, but I really would like to shoot for more consistent posting throughout the week. Plus, it would encourage me to step up my game as a writer.

Anyway, it’s time for the first Happy Haiku for this blog site.  Read the rest of this entry »

Amber

with 5 comments

In dedication to my friend Imori and her cat named Amber, I wrote a haiku.

Amber passed away today. Unfortunately, Amber was a very sick kitty for a long time. Nonetheless, her last days on this earth were spent surrounded by those who loved her very much.

It is sad to see pets come and go, but all the companionship, wonderful memories and happiness they brought to our lives will never be forgotten. Ever.

山猫

So below is a quick haiku I wrote about my favorite cat in the world: the cougar. This haiku follows the traditional 5-7-5 syllable format. Perhaps I am a poet and didn’t even know it. Or not. >^..^<

Dream to Live

with one comment

“Dreams” by Langston Hughes

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

Thanks, Rikki. >^..^<

“Never Let Go of Hope” by Jancarl Campi

One day you will see that it all has finally come together.

What you have always wished for has finally come to be.

You will look back and laugh at what has passed and you
will ask yourself, “How did I get through all of that?”

Just never let go of hope. Just never quit dreaming.
And never let love depart from your life.

Earning Stripes

A long time ago back in Japanese class during college, we had an assignment where we had to make up our own haiku and then present our 5-7-5 syllable Japanese poems to everyone else. We also had to explain the significance of our poems.

I recall this time period back in the day because my Japanese sensei wrote a haiku about her pregnancy, and me (having a brain fart at the worst possible times) totally forgot that ‘stomach’ in Japanese was お腹 (onaka). So yeah,  it was quite embarrassing when I had to be the one to put a dent in her special haiku announcement to the class that she was having a baby. >.>
