Everyday NhanSense: Each day, I will blog about something that comes to mind. My goal is to practice writing about my hobbies, my interests, my opinions and so forth.

Day 46’s Topic: Frustration.
——————————————————————————————————————————————–
Ugh, today was a day I wish I could just pry open my head and take a look at what’s bothering me. Because, oh boy, today was quite a doozy, emotionally anyway.

I just suddenly felt super frustrated near the end of my shift at work for some reason. I do not know exactly why in the sense that it just came up abruptly, literally out of nowhere. Maybe it was a case of my mood swings going a bit haywire, but then again I am pretty good at keeping the emotions under wraps for a majority of the time.

Ack, I wish I could just toss away these stupid feelings. It makes me feel unmotivated, just not passionate enough to stir up some momentum.

Again, life has been more than fine for me. Better than OK, honestly.

Lots of ups and less downs to drag me down into the pits of despair and self-loathing. But regardless, I have felt like a mess in the past few hours. I am scared. I am frightened.

But why?!

Everyday NhanSense – Day 43

Everyday NhanSense: Each day, I will blog about something that comes to mind. My goal is to practice writing about my hobbies, my interests, my opinions and so forth.

Day 43’s Topic: Days off.
——————————————————————————————————————————————–
Phew.

I have to say that getting days off is really nice, especially after a whole week on the job. I get Sundays off, so that’s pretty sweet.

Let’s just say after spending lots of time unemployed before, where having an abundance of free time was the norm, it just feels right to have that one day to yourself. It makes those days where you don’t have to work that more special and significant.

You can plan for that given day, establish a sense of structure and really live it up when the day finally comes.

I feel a touch tired, a bit more exhausted than usual, but my body is growing accustomed to this new work schedule. Working at the restaurant has been good. We’re a busy restaurant, so every day is generally a rush of customers from start to finish with limited downtime.

I prefer it this way, anyway. It keeps me busy. I don’t feel like I am standing around twiddling my thumbs, plus I have great coworkers who make the job a lot more pleasant. I get along with just about everyone there.

Everyday NhanSense – Day 23

Everyday NhanSense: Each day, I will blog about something that comes to mind. My goal is to practice writing about my hobbies, my interests, my opinions and so forth.

Day 23’s Topic: Good luck charms.

I still have it.

The 功 necklace I bought at the anime store from the mall is still being carried with me each day. I freak out if I misplace it, even for a moment. I still don’t like wearing jewelry of any kind (I don’t even like the sensation of a watch around my wrist), so I just have this thing chilling in my pocket.

And sometimes, I’ll admit I like to take it out and twirl it around when I’m thinking. It’s only natural, right?

This necklace isn’t worth much by all means, but the 功 itself is still important to me. It acts as a constant reminder of how I can get myself out of any predicament.

功, again, means “success.” Its symbol components consist of “work” and “strength.” You need to work toward success and have the necessary strength to endure and make it happen. Isn’t this what life is all about?

功 is such a powerful and meaningful symbol. It just inspires you, doesn’t it? Continue reading

Everyday NhanSense – Day 9

——————————————————————————————————————————————–
Everyday NhanSense: Each day, I will blog about something that comes to mind. My goal is to practice writing about my hobbies, my interests, my opinions and so forth.

Day 9’s Topic: Chasing after hares.
——————————————————————————————————————————————–
The Japanese culture has a particular proverb that resonates with me.

二兎を追う者は一兎をも得ず。
(Ni usagi wo ou mono wa ichi usagi wo mo ezu.)
Literally: One who chases after two hares won’t catch even one.
Meaning: Trying to do two things at once will make you fail in both.

As human begins, we often feel stretched in multiple directions as far as interests go. It could be delving into photography one day or learning how to do a particular dance style the next. I am certainly guilty of this as well when it comes to pursuing these “hares” in life.

I want to do this. I want to do that. I want to do this while doing that. There are so many things I want to learn, but realistically I am aware I am not giving each respective activity enough attention. It requires time and energy to become proficient at something. Piano, singing, painting … everything for that matter.

Practice makes perfect, as they say. Continue reading

Daily NhanSense – Day 12

Daily NhanSense: Every day, I will blog about something that comes to mind. My goal is to practice writing about my hobbies, my interests, my opinions and so forth.

Day 12’s Topic: Music.

Lyrics
I was so afraid of the days long ago
Now I realize that I never did know
Now days have changed; they’re complex and sad
Missing all the days that I once had
I don’t really think that I’d want to return
Today may be hard, but I live and I learn
My heart believes; I don’t think that it’s wrong
Then it shouts that I have been just right all along

Now is the time for our fate to connect
Believing in the same future, we intersect
All of the tears we have cried yesterday
Let’s dry them up and keep smiling on today
We are a team; we share all painfulness
But yet we also share all the same tenderness
As long as you stay right here next to me
I will stay strong for tomorrow; you will see..

Daily NhanSense: Every day, I will blog about something that comes to mind. My goal is to practice writing about my hobbies, my interests, my opinions and so forth.

Day 9’s Topic: Life.

Leave it to an anime song geared toward children to resonate so much with how my heart is feeling right now about life …

Pendulum★Cute - “One Step”

Translated Meaning of Lyrics
Now, catch that heart-pounding dream and cry your tears to release
Step forward to the field as the game starts
And take a fabulous one step to see a miracle

I realized that strength isn’t given
So I reach for it, one step after another
As I keep on working, never ever stopping

Even if walls or fierce winds stand in my way
I take a step forward, drawing my trump card called “Courage”
And believe in the story of victory Continue reading

Daily NhanSense – Day 2

Daily NhanSense: Every day, I will blog about something that comes to mind. My goal is to practice writing about my hobbies, my interests, my opinions and so forth.

Day 2’s Topic: Personal philosophy.

I’m not the kind of guy who wears necklaces, but I constantly carry one with me each day. It sounds a bit weird, so please allow me to explain.

I found the necklace below at an anime shop in my local mall. It was cheap at just $5, so why the heck not?

DSC03322

Though I don’t like wearing necklaces around my neck, I have made it a habit to have this trinket inside my left pocket throughout the day. I have been doing so for the past few months now.

The necklace has the Chinese symbol for “success,” which can be read as “gong” in Chinese or other ways like “kou” in Japanese.

If you look at the 功 symbol carefully, the radicals (as in the basic stroke shapes that make up the symbol itself) represent “work” and “strength” respectively, both of which are absolutely necessary for attaining success in anything. Continue reading
