Champion Guide: Fiora, the Grand Duelist

Standard

As Someone Who Loves the French Accent
“En garde!”

Hello there.

My IGN for the North American server is Nhan Fiction, and my favorite champion in “League of Legends” is Fiora, the Grand Duelist.

I decided to write a CASUAL guide for the champion I love the most in LoL. This is a casual guide in the sense that it is geared for “fun” and not intended for “serious” play by any means. This guide is merely a representation of how I play Fiora right down to every detail.

At no point do I claim this guide to be the best or optimal way of playing this champion. These are just strategies I like to do for Fiora that work for me, and they are tactics I find enjoyable for my own amusement.

Finally, credit to all the artists for their respective artwork on this page. I have tried to source all the ones I could find.  Continue reading

I have added new artwork for Sylphie

Japanese Te Form Song

So I am trying to get into doing YouTube stuff (finally).

For this particular video, I had to relearn a lot of things, and I had to overcome all kinds of bouts with social anxiety and whatnot. I hope it turned out all right. ^^;

The Te Form Song
み, に and び go to んで
い, ち and り go to small っ and て
き to いて
ぎ to いで
If it’s an E-1, here’s what you do
Just put a て in place of ます

Devin made an alternate outfit for Sylphie the other day in Dream Selfy, and I totally derped and forgot to post about it.

This is Sylphie, the Buttercup Mage.

Club Platinum
Finally.

At long last, I have hit Platinum V in “League of Legends!”

It took three separate promotion series attempts. A lot of raging. A lot sad feelings. Just a whole bunch of emotions … But, with enough perseverance and patience, I have pulled it off.

It was not easy. In fact, at times, I wasn’t even having any fun at all. It was a grind, and it was a difficult one at that.

For my first two promotion attempts, I had a leaver/AFKer in my final games, respectively. In addition, matchmaking decided to throw a few Diamond V players my way for a bunch of my promotion games to boot. It was like the system wanted to make it as difficult as possible for me to rank up.

It got to a point where I just decided to go ham and play lights out. I started to find means to “cope” in-game to make the process more bearable, even going as far as announcing in-game that I was listening to romantic, shoujo anime music (because I was) to my opponents. And then, of course, I would have said romantic, shoujo anime music playing as I went through the motions.

A very special thank you to Spooky Siren for making this wonderful and precious plushie for Sylphie. Devin worked really hard on this Sylphie project, so Imoristar and I thought we should arrange for this one-of-a-kind plushie be sent to Devin as a token of our gratitude. :)

Nhan-Fiction Note:
I wrote this in terms of opinions of how this character plays on Summoner’s Rift.

Why So British?
Caitlyn, the Sheriff of Piltover, is my favorite ranged carry to play in “League of Legends.”

Caitlyn is a champion I proudly use on my Fantastic 15. I love her range and utility. Whether it is sniping down foes from afar or upholding the law with this sheriff’s bag of tricks, Caitlyn makes sure the bad guys and gals don’t get away.

Something in the Air
Janna, the Storm’s Fury, is one of the most popular support champions in “League of Legends.”

Though I wouldn’t count Janna as part of my Fantastic 15, I consider Janna to be an extremely powerful character in the game. When I can, I utilize her versatile skill-set to my advantage. Played properly, Janna can help your team blow away the competition with her wind magic.

The fact is, Janna is basically always good and fits into a ton of team strategies. In addition, she is a very disruptive force for your foes because her assortment of offensive and defensive spells greatly hinder your opponents.

When in doubt for the support role, you cannot go wrong with Janna.

Anime Recommendation: Itazura na Kiss

Standard

English Translation of Lyrics
Hellos and goodbyes frolic in the wind
In the days of spring
The pastel colors (also) break into dance
The fairytale begins

Immediately
I will come rushing over to your side
Wait for me
Only looking at the brilliant, magic moment

Fate entwined in mischief
We had always been searching
And now we’ve managed to find each other
I’m sure it’s not mere chance
I want you to remain by my side

How Lovely
Shoujo anime
can be awesome. There, I said it. I was looking for a random series to watch, and I stumbled across Itazura na Kiss (Mischievous/Playful Kiss). It is an anime that is a few years old, but I ended up thoroughly enjoying this show from start to finish.

Synopsis: Ever since she entered high school, Kotoko Aihara wanted to be in the same class as Naoki Irie. The only problem is that Irie is the smartest student in school contrast to Kotoko being one of the dumbest. Now in her 3rd year of high school, she still isn’t there. However, one day her home gets destroyed and the only place left to go to was Irie’s home. Now that she lives close to him, will their relationship be the same, or will it become greater than it is?

Now, I haven’t watched much shoujo anime in my lifetime, but I definitely liked Itazura na Kiss more than Kimi ni Todoke (though that anime title, respectively, was pretty good in its own ways). As a romantic comedy, I found Itazura na Kiss to be a very sweet story with plenty of laughs and heartwarming moments.

I particularly liked how the plot develops the relationship of the two main protagonists: Kotoko and Naoki. From their budding feelings in high school to the transition into life as a married couple, I found the slice-of-life aspect very engrossing. Continue reading

A Darling Duelist
Fiora, the Grand Duelist, has been an interesting champion for me in “League of Legends.”

There was a point where I ripped on Fiora for being a trashy champion, and then something clicked with Fiora to the point where she became one of my favorite characters in the entire game.

Go figure. It is funny how some things work out sometimes.

I consider Fiora to be my No. 1 top laner for my Fantastic 15. I have played a lot of Fiora games lately, and there is something about her as a character that appeals to me for some reason. Despite how some people would argue, Fiora is quite frankly not that good of a champion. Other champions do her job and role much better.

She does not bring much to the table aside from damage for your team’s composition. She runs into a lot of match-up problems for top lane (like, I mean a lot of standard top laners have a natural edge over her). She is extremely easy to counter-build against …

The list of flaws for Fiora stretches on and on, but I still find myself using this darling duelist for my top lane matches whenever I can.

Perhaps I just really adore the fake French accent?

Ups and Downs
Well, it certainly has been a long while since I wrote a “Toward the Top” thing for “League of Legends.” Truth be told, I “tilted” hard. Like, it was probably the worst kind of tilt you could do in LoL. I was just really embarrassed for myself as a player that I let it get so bad.

“Tilting” basically refers to long losing streaks, which are often brought about from frustration and other negative feelings. Let’s say you lose a disheartening game, you then try to “make up” for it, but then you lose again. And then, you find yourself constantly seeing that “Defeat” screen over and over again.

Before you know it, your rating has fallen by a lot.

For me, however, I tilted all the way from the cusp of Gold I all the way down to the pits of Gold V. As in … I hit rock bottom for my division. I fell to the lowest point of Gold V (zero points) not once, not twice, not even thrice, but FOUR times total.

So you might be thinking, “Wow, Nhan, how did that happen?” It was a lot of things, actually. I played poorly. I made a lot of horrible judgment calls about playing when the tilting initially began. There were many instances of bad luck. Yada yada yada.

Nonetheless, I fought back with a lot of diligence and patience.

Lo and behold!

Gold II (x3B)

I just got back into Gold II again.
