Kiya

So the e-painting above was done by Tania Mae. I am truly grateful for individuals like her who go out of their way to complete projects like this, and out of the kindness of their hearts as well. Honestly, who can say they have had an e-painting done for them before?

As one of my various side projects, I have been gathering additional artwork for my League of Legends champion suggestions, such as for Vikki. In this case, I designed Kiya, The Feline of Fervor, as a realistic character for the game itself.

THE CREATION PROCESS

Well, League of Legends already had a dog champion and a crocodile champion, so I figured I needed to create a cat-based champion to pay homage to the Egyptian mythology framework that the game was already borrowing from (yeah, nice excuse on my part to design a cat character >^..^<). I opted to make this champion female to differentiate the concept compared to the tough and brute male counterparts.

For this particular idea, I went through an Egyptian baby name dictionary to pick out an appropriate female name, until eventually selecting Kiya (ky uh) because I thought it had a nice ring to it with an exotic touch.

I then had a blast coming up with what Kiya would say, pouncing on the opportunity to use as many cat puns as I could come up with for some character lines. Check out some of her sound bites to see what I mean (voice sample done by the super talented LilyPichu).

For the skills, I played around with a lot of ideas (let’s just say mummified cats were on the drawing board at one point) before I settled on the support-centered skill-set that made it into the final design.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed designing Kiya. I love Egyptian mythology. I love cats. I love League of Legends. So I combined all of these things together to create something special. I owe a lot to those who have have/are helping me with additional things for this particular champion suggestion, such as my friend Taios who helped me with the math stuff (because I am an Asian American who sucks at mathematics -_-).

Meow for the next side project! >^..^<
